What is Wireless Device Testing?

Wireless testing involves assessing that a device meets government-specified performance requirements for products incorporating wireless technologies like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Zigbee, LoRa, and cellular connectivity. This testing — also called EMI/EMC testing — ensures wireless devices do not interfere with one another and are safe to use.

The FCC requires proper authorization of all radio frequency (RF) devices before they are sold in the US. Other countries have similar requirements. A device must be tested by an ISO 17025 accredited lab and certified by a Telecommunications Certification Body (TCB). Failure to undergo proper testing results in risks including fines, product recalls, and suspension of sales.

📳 Two FCC Authorization Methods:
Certification — the most rigorous process, requiring testing by a TCB; data is posted to a public database. See our FCC certification guide.
Supplier’s Declaration of Conformity (SDoC) — no authorization application required, but an accredited test report must be maintained. See our FCC SDoC authorization guide.

About Wireless Testing from Compatible Electronics

As a fully accredited Telecommunications Certification Body (TCB), Compatible Electronics grants FCC Certifications directly — more certifications are granted by TCBs than the FCC itself processes, making us your fastest path to FCC market authorization.

Our laboratory is certified to ISO/IEC 17025 standards (NVLAP Lab Code 200527-0). Our laboratories undergo regular inspections to ensure operational standards are maintained. View our full scope of accreditation and ILAC-MRA recognition.

Laboratory Equipment for Wireless Testing
