ETSI EN 301 489 — EMC for Radio Equipment

ETSI EN 301 489 is the multi-part EMC standard for radio equipment and services, covering the essential requirements of Article 3.1(b) of the EU Radio Equipment Directive (RED) 2014/53/EU. Part 1 provides common technical requirements that apply to all radio equipment; each subsequent part adds specific EMC conditions for particular radio service types. Our ETSI EN 301 489 Testing page provides a full overview. This page covers three additional parts — -4, -9, and -17 — that are accredited on the Compatible Electronics NVLAP scope.

🔎 How EN 301 489 parts work: Every radio product requires EN 301 489-1 (common requirements) plus the part specific to its radio service type. For example, a Wi-Fi device needs EN 301 489-1 + EN 301 489-17. A fixed radio link needs EN 301 489-1 + EN 301 489-4. A wireless microphone needs EN 301 489-1 + EN 301 489-9. Compatible Electronics holds accreditation for Parts 1, 3, 4, 9, and 17 covering most common radio service types.
